Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Franco Aleman was born in Cuba but grew up in Florida. He was first drafted coming out of high school in the 38th round of the 2018 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves, and again in the 10th round of the 2021 amateur draft, by the Cleveland Indians. Between those two dates, he had attended three different schools, first playing at Florida International University in 2019, then transferring to a junior college in 2020, and returning to an NCAA Division-I school in 2021 when he played for the University of Florida.

He started his professional career in 2022 by going 3-10, 6.31 in 24 games for the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League. That was not the greatest of debuts, but he did much better in 2023, finishing at 4-4, 3.11 in 39 games between two teams in High A and AA. He then played the next three seasons with the Columbus Clippers, Cleveland's AAA affiliate in the International League. He was full-time reliever all three years, but saw his ERA fluctuate wildly: from 1.99 in 24 games in 2024, it jumped to 7.85 in 37 games in 2025, then in 2026, he had yet to allow an earned run after 13 games. That is when the now-renamed Cleveland Guardians called him up on May 8th. He made his big league debut two days later with two innings of scoreless relief in a 5-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
