Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Félix Reyes homered in his first major league at-bat in his debut for the Philadelphia Phillies on April 18, 2026. Starting in left field against the Atlanta Braves, his 2nd-inning homer off Chris Sale was the Phils' only run in a 3-1 loss.

Reyes was signed by the Phillies and scout Luis Garcia on February 22, 2020. His professional debut was delayed by a year by the COVID-19 pandemic, taking place in 2021 with the FCL Phillies. After 7 games, he was promoted to the Clearwater Threshers of what was called the Low-A Southeast that year only. He played for the same two teams in 2022, with Clearwater now part once again of the Florida State League. He had batted .219 in 37 games his first year, and .220 in 56 games the second. He took a big step forward in 2023, which he split between Clearwater and the Jersey Shore BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League, with a slash line of .263/.307/.407 with 10 homers and 68 RBIs in 77 games.

After playing winter ball in the Colombian League following the 2023 season, he spent a full year at Jersey Shore in 2024, batting .243 with 8 homers and 50 RBIs. At that point, he was still more promise than performance, but he broke out in Colombia the following winter, batting .344 in 24 games for the Leones de Barranquilla. That carried over into the regular season with the Reading Fightin Phils of the AA Eastern League, where he was named the player of the year after hitting .335 in 95 games, earning him a late-season promotion to the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs for another 6 games. His combined slash line was .331/.361/.562 in 101 games, with 34 doubles, 16 homers, 64 runs and 67 RBIs. He was also successful on 13 of 15 stolen base attempts. In addition to winning MVP honors for Reading, he was also the Player of the Month in August, a post-season All-Star and a AA All-Star.

Now considered one of the jewels of the Phillies' system, Félix began the 2026 season in Lehigh Valley. He was hitting .333 after 18 games when he got the call to Philadelphia on the day he made his debut. He replaced Otto Kemp, who had struggled badly at the plate in the first three weeks of the season. He was in St. Paul, MN the previous evening and had to rush to Philadelphia to make it for his debut game, landing in the City of Brotherly Love in the early afternoon. He was the seventh player in franchise history to homer in his first big league at-bat, the most recent having been Wes Wilson in 2023, all of the others coming in the previous century or even earlier.
