Eugene Murdock
Eugene Murdock (1928-1992), also known as Eugene C. Murdock was a prolific baseball researcher and one of the first to join SABR, only a month after its founding in 1971.
He was a frequent contributor to the Baseball Research Journal and wrote a number of seminal books of baseball history, including Ban Johnson: Czar of Baseball (1982), Baseball Players and Their Times: Oral Histories of the Game, 1920-1940, and Baseball Between the Wars: Memories of the Game by the Men Who Played It. The last two titles reflect his passion for oral history and he donated much of his research materials to the Cleveland Public Library.
He was honored posthumously with the Henry Chadwick Award in 2026.
