Biographical Information[edit]

Eric Espino hit .343 and slugged .547 in 20 seasons in Panama. He led the league in walks in 1982, homers in 1983, average in 1984 and doubles in 1985, winning MVP in 1984. His brother Tito Espino also starred in Panama at that time. Eric was the first player in Panama to 500 career hits and the last player-manager. He was on the Panamanian national team in the 1981 Intercontinental Cup and was on their team that won Bronze in the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games and remained with them for the 1982 Amateur World Series. He later got a pharmacy degree and owned and operated a pharmacy chain. He continued his involvement in baseball as a radio and TV commentator. As of 2026, he was still 9th all-time in Panama with 67 dingers.
