Biographical Information[edit]
David Markey was a shortstop in professional baseball and later a college coach. A graduate of Canisius University, he played in the Cleveland farm system after his college career.[1]
At Canisius, Markey was a standout in both baseball and basketball. He won the baseball team's batting title as a freshman in 1955 and helped the Golden Griffins win a second straight Little Three crown. He was later inducted into the Canisius sports hall of fame in 1969.[2]
Markey returned to Canisius as an assistant coach in 1959.[3] He then served as the school's head baseball coach from 1960 through 1971.[1]
