Biographical Information

Pitcher Daniel Palencia was anointed as the closer for the Venezuelan national team at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, and he did a great job. He did not give up a run over five innings in the tournament while striking out nine opponents and saved Venezuela's final three wins, over Japan, Italy and the United States, to earn Venezuela its first ever title. Their last global baseball tournament title had been way back in the 1945 Amateur World Series, in a much easier field.
