Biographical Information[edit]

Daiki Asama has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Asama represented Japan in the 2014 BFA U-18 Baseball Championship. The Nippon Ham Fighters selected him in the 3rd round of the 2014 NPB draft, and he hit .285/.307/.377 in 46 games in his first season. He hit a walk-off double against the Softbank Hawks on September 23, and he became the first Fighters rookie drafted out of high school to get a walk-off hit. Asama also had a solid .300/.350/.450 batting line with 7 homers in the NPB Farm Leagues. He was the starting right fielder of the Fighters in the 2015 PLCS first stage Game 1, and he became the first rookie straight from high school to play in the Climax Series in NPB history.

The Tokyo native suffered from spinal disc herniation in 2016, so he slumped to .191/.219/.273 with a homer. He struggled again in 2017 due to that injury, and he went 2-for-42 in 19 games. Asama hit .239/.323/.409 in 31 games in 2018, but he only got 13 appearances in 2019 because of a right foot injury, He fractured his left hand before the 2020 season, and he had a .190/.230/.224 batting line in 42 games. Asama finally had a health season in 2021, and he crushed 5 homers with a .251/.308/.338 batting line. He batted .232/.267/.357 in 72 games in 2022, but he fractured his left foot in 2023 so he only played 13 games. Asama returned in 2024, and his batting line was .275/.336/.358 in 49 games. He hit a walk-off single against Hirokazu Sawamura in Game 2 of the 2024 PLCS first stage Game 2.
