Biographical Information[edit]
Reese Gutierrez is a Dominican-American two-way player whose professional career began in the Czech Republic Extraliga. Known for his versatility, durability, and pure athleticism, Gutierrez has contributed throughout his career as both a frontline starting pitcher and a multi-position infielder.
Gutierrez began his career two years out of high school with the Tri-Citi Tritons of the Federal League from 2020 through 2022, a competitive semi-professional league based in Southern Florida. During that stretch, he served as a relief pitcher, and played second baseman occasionally, establishing himself as a reliable two-way contributor with a .462 OBP, 16 strikeouts and 6 earned runs allowed in 11 2/3 innings at the close of the 2022 short season. In the summer of 2023 he competed with US Elite scout team, competing in individual tournaments as both a pitcher and third baseman while batting in the sixth spot and facing high-caliber, college-level competition across Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Texas. In late 2023, he appeared as a relief pitcher only, and accumulated 14 strikeouts without allowing any earned runs in 11 innings, helping the New York Mudcats capture the Florida Fall Classic Championship at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, FL.
The 2024 season marked a defining chapter in Gutierrez's career when he joined Frýdek-Místek Klasik of the Czech Extraliga, the highest level of professional baseball in the Czech Republic. Serving as the No. 1 starter in the rotation, Gutierrez logged 13 starts and 90 innings, including two complete games, and established himself as the most dominant strikeout pitcher in the league. He led the Extraliga with 116 strikeouts, breaking the club single-season strikeout record. During the season, he recorded five games with ten or more strikeouts, consistently overpowering opposing lineups and anchoring the pitching staff. The team advanced to the second round of the Extraliga playoffs before being eliminated in Brno, Czech Republic.
In addition to his pitching, Gutierrez made a impact offensively and defensively. He primarily hit in the two-hole and appeared defensively at second base, shortstop, third base and designated hitter. Over the course of the season, he posted 32 hits, 25 bases on balls, a .380 on-base percentage, 28 runs scored, 21 stolen bases in 25 attempts through 125 at-bats and a .936 Fielding percentage, showcasing his plate discipline, speed, and baseball awareness. His ability to contribute on both sides of the ball made him one of the league’s most complete and valuable players during the 2024 campaign.
Gutierrez’s 2024 Czech Extraliga season stands as the most accomplished of his career, cementing his reputation as an standout two-way player capable of performing at a high level in professional international baseball.
