Biographical Information[edit]

D.J. Engle played college ball at the College of Lake County and Chicago State and graduated in 2016 with a degree in Criminal Justice & Corrections. He later earned a master's from Fort Hays State University in Liberal Studies, Health and Human Performance. From 2016-2018, Engle worked at least part-time in various baseball related positions. Engle spent the next three years with McPherson College where he focused upon coaching pitchers. He was a graduate assistant coach in 2019-2020 and it appears he held a regular assistant coaching position in 2021.[1]

Engle moved into professional baseball coaching in 2021 when the Minnesota Twins hired him as a pitching coach for the DSL Twins. He repeated that role in 2022 before a promotion to pitching coach of the Wichita Wind Surge for the next two years. Engle left the Twins organization in 2025 to become the Minor League Pitching Coordinator for the Houston Astros. Going from the Dominican Summer League to Double-A to a coordinator's role in five years to an impressive achievement.
