Cuban Triangal League
(Redirected from Cuban Triangular League)
The Cuban Triangular League was an independent league that played in 1926-1927 and featured better talent than the Cuban Winter League due to higher salaries. The games were played from October 28, 1926 through February 6, 1927 at the University of Havana Stadium.
The Alacranes won the pennant at 22-15. They were led by player-manager Dolf Luque (10-6 on the mound, .278 at the plate). Jose Mendez (3-1) won his final game in Cuba. SS Dick Lundy paced the offense at .410. OF Clint Thomas (.331) led the league with 35 runs.
For last-place Marianao (managed by SS Pelayo Chacon, who hit .336), OF Pablo Mesa won the batting championship with a .433 mark. In the high-offense league, Chino Smith hit a disappointing .342 considering he often hit for better averages in more pitcher-friendly environments.
