Chih-Jung Liu has played for the Taiwanese national team.
Liu was the All-Star second baseman in the 2016 Asian U-18 Championship, helping Taiwan win Silver.  He was a two-way threat in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, losing to South Korea and beating Mexico as a pitcher and going 4 for 4 against Italy. He hit .316/.500/.316 with 7 walks in 7 games and had a 1.92 ERA. His 13 batters whiffed tied for the team lead.  He was MVP of the 2019 Asian Championship as Taiwan won the event. He fanned two batters in one inning to close out the win over South Korea. In his other game, he saved Tsung-Hao Wang's 5-4 win over Japan in the finale, striking out five in 2 1/3 shutout innings and allowing only one hit.  Shortly thereafter, the Boston Red Sox signed him, with a bonus of $700,000 to $1 million. His fastball had been timed at 98 mph.
