Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Yamada was 2-1 with a 1.29 ERA for the Brazilian national team in the 2003 Baseball World Cup. He lost to Team USA's Hank Workman but then struck out 13 in a 5-hit, no-walk whitewash of China, defeating Peng Li. He pitched 8 shutout innings in an upset win over South Korea's Jae-young Lee (4 H, 4 BB, 5 K) in the 7th/8th place game. He tied for 4th in the Cup in wins (trailing Rafael Medina, Len Picota and Norge Luis Vera by one) and was 4th with 19 K (after Vicyohandri Odelín, Lee and Vera).
