Buxton is located in the Outer Banks off the eastern coast of North Carolina, immediately north of Cape Hatteras and its famous lighthouse, on an island between Pamlico Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The town includes a Maurice Burrus Road, named in honor of Maurice "Dick" Burrus, one of the area's most famous residents.
