Biographical Information[edit]
Bryan Conger was a college coach for many years before moving into coaching professional athletes.
Conger spent two seasons in the independent leagues. He had a 6-4, 4.64 record for the 1996 Pine Bluff Locomotives, then split 1997 between the Abilene Prairie Dogs and Tupelo Tornado (1-1, 2.33).
He returned to his alma mater, Tarleton State, as pitching coach in 1998-1999. Next, he was pitching coach at Lamar Community College, working with Brandon McCarthy. In 2003, he was head coach of Cloud County Community College, guiding the school to its first postseason win ever. He was pitching coach at the University of Utah from 2004-2008, then was back with Tarleton again, this time as head coach. He went 28-30-1 in 2009. He stayed with Tarleton through 2018. Conger ended his Tarleton career with 288 wins, the second highest total in program history.
The Texas Rangers hired Conger in 2019 to coach pitchers at their AZL Rangers affiliate. He was slated for a similar role with the Spokane Indians in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. Conger moved to the Cincinnati Reds in 2021 as a Minor League Pitching Coordinator and remained in that position through 2024. In 2025, Conger was named Senior Pitching Coordinator for the Reds and Brian Garman took over his previous role of Minor League Pitching Coordinator.
Conger's son, Maddux Conger, pitched at Vanderbilt University and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 2018 amateur draft.
