Biographical Information[edit]
Atsushi Sakagami played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.
Sakagami signed with the Nishitetsu Lions in 1954, and he had a 2.23 ERA in 44 appearances in his first season. He had a 1.29 ERA in 4 appearances before the Lions sent him to the Daiei Stars, and he pitched 13 games with a 1.95 ERA in the rest of the season. Sakagami went 1-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 1956, and he was 1-3 with a 3.67 ERA in 1957 then he announced his retirement. He invented the first automatic pitching machine of Japan, and he ran a batting cage near the Tokyo Dome after retiring.
Overall, Sakagami was 13-14 with a 2.72 ERA, struck out 118 and pitched 317 1/3 innings in 4 seasons in NPB.
