Biographical Information

Atsushi Katsumata has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Katsumata was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the 4th round of the 2018 NPB draft as a pitcher; the scout was Mitsunori Kakehata. He spent his first six seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues, going 5-4 with a 5.08 ERA and 79 walks in 83 1/3 IP over three seasons. He was turned into a outfielder in 2022. The move immediately paid off as he hit .293/.342/.459 that year; had he qualified, he would've led the Eastern League in average (.015 ahead of Taiga Hirasawa) and slugging (.021 ahead of Ryosuke Nishikawa). He hit .233/.291/.260 in 19 games for the Canberra Cavalry in the 2024-2025 ABL. Katsumata finally made his NPB debut on May 4, 2025 against the Yomiuri Giants, and he was 3-for-9 for the top team that season.
