Biographical Information[edit]
Antonio Romero pitched in Cuba for three years.
Romero was 3-10 with a 6.37 ERA as a rookie for the Metropolitanos in 2009-2010. He tied Yanier González, Freddy Asiel Alvarez and Vicyohandri Odelin for third in the Cuban Serie Nacional in losses, one shy of the lead. He moved to the more prestigious Industriales in 2010-2011 and was a solid reliever for them (4-4, 4 Sv, 4.81 in 30 G). In 2011-2012, he went 6-3 with 8 saves and a 3.58 ERA. In the finale, he got the start against Ciego de Ávila and gave up 3 runs in the first 3 innings, all on Yoelvis Fiss doubles. He then shut out Ciego de Ávila for the next five innings, relieved by Julio Montesinos; the Industriales wound up losing the game and the series in the 11th.
Romero filed paperwork to emigrate following the 2011-2012 season. He made it to the US minors in 2015 with the Cleveland Indians chain but had a 8.59 ERA in 19 games.
