Alvin Alfred Fléming (Fichi)

Biographical Information[edit]

Alfred Fléming was on the Netherlands Antilles national team several times.

He played in Curaçao's top league from 1965-1979. He was with the Antillean teams in the 1970 Amateur World Series and 1971 Amateur World Series (his five doubles tying Ramón Greene and Eduardo Ruiz for the lead) then was named co-MVP of the 1972 Haarlem Baseball Week alongside Cuba's Félix Isasi. He was with the Antillean team in the 1973 FIBA Amateur World Series. He was batting champ in Curaçao in 1976 and home run and RBI leader in 1977.

In the 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games, he played for the Antillean squad for the final team. He coached or managed their teams in the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games (coach, Bronze Medal winners), 1983 Pan American Games, 1984 Amateur World Series, 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games (manager, Silver Medal winners), 1986 Amateur World Series (coach), 1987 Pan American Games, 1990 Central American and Caribbean Games, 1991 Pan American Games, 1993 Central American and Caribbean Games, 1994 South American Games (manager, Gold Medal winners), 1995 Pan American Games and 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games. The 1994 Gold was his country's first baseball Gold medal. He coached for the Amsterdam Pirates in 2001.
