Biographical Information

Alex Barrett was pitching for the Karlstad Loggers in the Swedish minor leagues when he made the Swedish national team for the 2025 European Championship. He debuted against defending champion Spain, relieving Olle Jerfsten with a 11-0 deficit in the 5th. He allowed an Edison Valerio single, walked Jesús Ustariz, surrendered a RBI double to Wander Encarnación, gave up a two-run double to Félix Stevens and Frank Hernández made it 3 straight doubles and ended the game due to the mercy rule; he had retired none of five batters. His next appearance was shorter; succeeding Gustav Öijen in the 7th with two on, one out and a 9-0 deficit versus the Czech Republic, he gave up a RBI single to Martin Červenka that made it a mercy rule loss. His last outing was clearly his best. Taking over for Jakob Syrén with a 9-3 deficit in the 8th versus Croatia, he went 1-2-3 against Andrija Tomić, former major leaguer Joey Terdoslavich and Jantzen Witte. He allowed the first two to reach in the 9th but struck out Ronnie Krsolovic ad got the final two outs. He tied Oskar Syrén for the team lead in appearances.
