Alanna Janel Rizzo

Biographical Information[edit]

Alanna Rizzo is a broadcaster who worked on broadcasts of Los Angeles Dodgers games from 2013 to 2020 before joining the MLB Network in 2021.

Originally from Colorado, she was a star track and field athlete in high school, before studying international business as an undergraduate. She then returned to the University of Colorado to earn a graduate degree in broadcast journalism in 2003. She work for various CBS affiliates in the western U.S. before obtaining a job with Root Sports Rocky Mountain, a regional sports cable network, before a first stint with the MLB Network in 2012 and 2013. From there, she was hired by the Dodgers.

She was part of a broadcasting first on July 20, 2021, when she part of the first all-female broadcast team to work a major league game, as the on-field reporter. The game was between the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field and joining her were Melanie Newman as the play-by-play announcer, Sarah Langs as the analyst, and Heidi Watney and Lauren Gardner as hosts of the pre-game and post-game shows. The game was broadcast on YouTube and available nationwide as a result.

She made more history on August 5, 2025 when she teamed up with Emma Tiedemann, who normally does the play-by-play for the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs, to broadcast a Red Sox game on NESN. It was done as part of Women's Celebration Night at Fenway Park. Again, this was not just a gimmick, as Tiedemann had previously filled in in the Red Sox booth before, and her own qualifications were unquestionable either.
