Biographical Information

Akiyoshi Koyama was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 3rd round of the 1978 NPB draft, and he only got 24 at-bats combined for the top team in his first nine seasons. The Whales traded him to the Lotte Orions for Masaru Ishikawa in 1988, and he went 4-for-26 that season. He didn't reach the big club in 1989, and he was released. Koyama returned to the Whales, and he only played 2 more games before he announced his retirement in 1992. He later coached in the Yokohama BayStars system from 1993 to 2000.
