Biographical Information[edit]
Akira Sakamaki signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters in 1977, and he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first four seasons. He had a 5.63 ERA in 15 games in 1982, and his ERA was 2.17 in 9 relief outings in 1983. Sakamaki went went 7-6 with a 3.33 ERA in 1984, but he slumped to 1-3 with a 6.26 ERA in 1985. He didn't reach the big club in the next two seasons, and he was released in 1987. The Lotte Orions signed him, but Sakamaki failed to return to the top team in 1988, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Sakamaki was 9-10 with a 3.84 ERA, struck out 115 and pitched 269 1/3 innings in 4 seasons in NPB.
