Biographical Information[edit]
Akio Kamiichi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Kamiichi signed with the Daiei Stars in 1952, and he was 1-for-9 in his first season. He played 88 games as Daiei's starting catcher in 1953, and his batting line was .167/.218/.197. He set the NPB record for most errors in a game as a catcher with 4 on March 31. Kamiichi then hit .152/.252/.250 in 1954, and he improved to .259/.275/.353 in 1955. He recorded a.221/.266/.386 batting line in 1956, but he was 1-for-24 in 1957 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Kamiichi hit .190/.243/.274 with 128 hits and 8 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
