Biographical Information[edit]

Akinori Takeguchi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Takeguchi was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 4th round of the 1977 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first two seasons. He had a 5.48 ERA in 14 appearances in 1980, and he recorded a 4.85 ERA in 21 games in 1981. Takeguchi pitched 21 games again in 1982, and his ERA was 5.08 in 27 relief outings in 1983. He still got many chances because of the Hawks' lack of southpaw relievers, but he struggled again in 1984 as his ERA was 6.21 in 40 games. Takeguchi pitched 25 games with a 6.57 ERA in 1985, and he had a 5.29 ERA in 36 games in 1986. He didn't reach the big club in 1987, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Takeguchi was 6-11 with a 5.50 ERA, struck out 126 and pitched 281 1/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
