Biographical Information

Catcher Akihisa Nishida played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Nishida was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 3rd round of the 2010 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He hit .331/.395/.436 with 5 homers in 2013, and he was 2nd in batting in the Eastern League (.006 behind Takahiro Araki). He also went 1-for-8 with the big club, and he was 5-for-20 in 2014. Nishida was 5-for-34 in 2015, and he got some chances after Kazuhiro Hatakeyama was injured in 2016. He played 74 games with a .243/.303/.419 batting line, but he then slumped to .137/.256/.219 in 2017. Nishida only played 4 games in 2018, and he was 11-for-54 in 2019. Yakult's two main catchers Yuhei Nakamura and Motohiro Shima were both injured in 2020, so Nishida returned to the starting spot and he hit .232/.313/.368 with 7 homers in 69 games. He never had more than 30 at-bats in a season again before he announced his retirement in 2024.

Overall, Nishida hit .211/.283/.339 with 141 hits and 17 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
