Biographical Information[edit]
Marcela Díaz has been on the Mexican women's national team.
When Mexico made their Women's Baseball World Cup debut in the 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup, Díaz was their starting catcher in all eleven games. She flew out against Canada's Raine Padgham her first time up. Her first hit was off Australia's Abbey Kelly. In the 2023 portion, she hit .250/.357/.250 with 5 RBI in 5 games, handling 29 chances error-free and throwing out 28.6% of base thieves. She tied for 9th in Pool A in RBI (with Jade Gortarez, Wing-Hin Ng, Valerie Perez and Madison Willan), tied Daniela Leal for the lead in fielding and led in runners thrown out stealing. [1] During the 2024 phase, she kept Mexico from being shut out by the USA, singling off Kelsie Whitmore to plate Leal. She was at .231/.333/.308 in that portion, fielding .909 and gunning down 28.6% again. She tied Yakary Molina for the most caught stealing by a catcher, 4. [2]
