Extra-base hit
(Redirected from Long Hits)
An extra-base hit, also known as a long hit, is a hit that goes for more than one base. Extra-base hits include all doubles, triples, and home runs. Hank Aaron holds the record with 1,477 extra-base hits in his career.
Extra bases refers to all additional bases collecting on long hits, i.e. 1 for a double, 2 for a triple and 3 for a home run. This is used to calculate slugging percentage when the number of total bases is not readily available. The formula is SLG = Hits + XBs / At-bats.
