15 Yankees Punch-outs In A 9-Inning Post-Season Game

Yankees batters struck out 15 times in Game 3 of the 2010 ALCS. The only other time the Yankees had 15 batters whiff in a post season game of nine innings or less was Game 1 of the 1963 World Series. Tough night in the Bronx for the home team in this one, huh?

I have no love for the Yankees, but when I heard that they were the underdogs at home, I thought it might incite them to erupt with a vengeance on Lee and the Rangers. I'm glad I didn't put any money on that thought.

i remember schilling fanning 16 yankees in 8 innings for the phils in a regular season game. i don't think jeter made contact the whole game.

I saw Pedro srrike out 17 in the Bronx 10 years ago. You could feel the breeze. Dominicans were dancing in the aisles.

Sadly, next October, Cliff Lee will be the same thing for the Yankees to the tune of $25 million per season.

Steve--Last night, the Yankees never came to bat with the go-ahead run at the plate (obviously, it could only ever happen to the home team). It would be interesting to note when the last time that happened in the postseason, especially with a deficit over 8 innings no larger than 2 runs.

It was Labor Day of '97, the first year of interleague play, and it was sweet! September 1st, I believe.

If Lee starts again in the next game he should be more effective based on pitching concepts.
The more you pitch, the more tired your arm becomes--which forces more ground balls.

I thought Jeter's first AB was going to be a HR and I got excited for 2 seconds, that was the last of my excitement.
A lot of the media was trying to claim it was a pitching duel. It was not a pitching duel. I think everyone would agree that it is easy to pitch well when you are behind, and 2 runs for Cliff Lee is like 100 runs.
But then it got a little (very little) interesting at the thought of the bottom of the ninth with the Yanks down by 2 against Lee over 120 pitches or the bullpen. But Robertson took care of that scenario.

This Yabnkee team has real holes in it...and as much as I want to see them win the series , I am not very optimisitc.....
Am i wrong or did A Rod just wave at one or two in hios direction, he didn t dive to try and stop them?

1963. Had to be Koufax. I double-checked to be sure - maybe he was needed for a clincher on the last day, and Drysdale did it instead. But it was Koufax.
