  1. BSK Says:

For the batters, does that include a defensive component?

  2. Neil Paine Says:

Yes, sorry about being unclear there. I changed it to read "position players" and "pitchers".

  3. Johnny Twisto Says:

When will 2010 WAR numbers be updated? They *still* have all zeros for GIDP and ROE.

  5. Kelly Says:

Where is the stat itself explained? I'm curious how park factors are applied. Thanks!

  6. Johnny Twisto Says:

Kelly, there is a brief explanation here: http://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/6063

A detailed explanation doesn't exist, at least not in one place. The framework is laid out in various posts by Sean Smith/AROM/Rally and Tango on different sites.

I am not sure what park factors are used...I assume it is the multi-year factors on this site.

Sorry for the non-answer. But if you have other questions about it, people here can try to answer them. Some details are beyond us however.

  7. Albert7 Says:

With the Jays Juan Rivera 4-39 with ZERO XBH's and ZERO RBI's in 46 PA's, it begs the question "what is the longest streak of PA's without an RBI and/or an XBH to start a season"?

  8. Neil L. Says:

    @7
Hopefully Brett Lawrie will be up to the big show soon and Rivera will not be getting many AB. What a bust! But then again the Vernon Wells' contract is gone.

Neil, having current-season data for WAR will be timely and will shape discussions in here. The site is continually improving for hard-core stat geeks and baseball enthusiasts.

  9. Mike Felber Says:

A pitcher having one more start when this is measured really can change the rankings, with so few IP/such a small sample size.

Either way. Gia has an 855 ERA +. Though it means little in 19 IP.
