Biographical Information[edit]

Yuya Taniguchi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Taniguchi was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 5th round of the 2010 NPB draft, and he spent his first three seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 42 at-bats combined for the big club. Taniguchi played 72 games with a .268/.306/.360 batting line in 2014, and he hit .243/.325/.346 in 2015. He recorded a .254/.287/.306 batting line in 2016, but he then torn his ACL and missed the entire 2017 season. Taniguchi never returned from the injury, and he only got 75 more at-bats before he announced his retirement in 2021. He hit over .300 numerous times in the minor leagues, even after his injury.

Overall, Taniguchi hit .241/.287/.322 with 140 hits and 7 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
