Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Ty Floyd was part of the Louisiana State University team that won the 2023 College World Series. He made the all-tournament team as a pitcher alongside his teammate Paul Skenes after collecting 27 strikeouts in 13 innings in the tournament and earning the win with 8 innings of work against the University of Florida in the first game of the finals. While Skenes was much more heralded and went first overall in the 2023 amateur draft, Ty was taken in Competitive Balance Round A by the Cincinnati Reds with the 38th pick, the penultimate one in the supplemental first round. In his final season at LSU, he had gone 7-0, 4.35 with 120 strikeouts in 91 innings for the powerhouse squad.
He had to wait until 2025 to make his professional debut, as he missed all of 2024 with a shoulder injury, after being purposely rested after signing with the Reds for a $2.1 million signing bonus. Pitching for the Daytona Tortugas of the Florida State League, he went 0-1, 3.25 in 8 starts totaling 27 2/3 innings. He struck out 31 batters but at 23 was older than average for the Low-A league. His season ended early when he was placed on the injured list on May 21st and stayed there for the remainder of the season.
