Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Tanner Murray was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 4th round of the 2020 amateur draft, out of the University of California, Davis. He played in the rays system from 2021 to 2025, reaching AAA briefly in 2023, and then spending a full season at the level with the Durham Bulls of the International League in 2025. In 137 games, he hit .241/.299/.400 with 29 doubles, 18 homers and 58 RBIs. Following that season, on November 18th, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox as part of a four-player deal, with Ps Yoendrys Gomez and Steven Wilson heading to Tampa and OF Everson Pereira accompanying Tanner to the Pale Hose.
He started the 2026 season in AAA With the Charlotte Knights. He was batting .304 with 1 double and 2 homers after 6 games when he was called up to Chicago on April 5th to replace the injured Pereira, his former teammate in the Rays organization, on the roster. He started at shortstop against the Toronto Blue Jays that day and went 0 for 2. His greatest contribution that day was on defense, as with the bases loaded in the 3rd, he fielded a grounder from Addison Barger on the right side of the second base bag and threw him out on a close play at first base to end the inning, saving two runs and making a key contribution to a 3-0 win.
