Biographical Information[edit]

"Sidearm, curve, sinker." - Takashi Kashiwada, describing his repertoire shortly after arriving in the USA in 1997

Takashi Kashiwada was a reliever who spent the 1997 season with the New York Mets, going 3-1 in 35 games. Most of Kashiwada's professional career was spent with the Yomiuri Giants, and when he retired they hired him as a scout and coach. In 203 games in Nippon Pro Baseball, he was primarily a LOOGY, working only 210 2/3 innings. He was 4-2 with a save and a 3.91 ERA for Yomiuri.

He originally arrived in the USA with Koichi Taniguchi as part of what was called an "educational exchange" in February 1997. The New York Times of February 14, 1997, reported that Kashiwada had suffered an injury three years earlier that robbed him of some speed, but that he said he could still throw at 90 mph.
