Biographical Information[edit]
Randy Davidson played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues, reaching AAA.
Davidson was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round of the 1971 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign and went to college. He was then selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 12th round of the 1972 Amateur Draft and by the Chicago White Sox in the 34th round of the 1973 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign either time. Davidson represented the USA when they won the 1974 Amateur World Series. The Cincinnati Reds picked him in the 9th round of the 1975 Amateur Draft, and he was 12-for-51 in 19 games for the Billings Mustangs in his first season. Davidson hit .246/.279/.279 with 17 steals (in 19 tries) in 68 games for the Tampa Tarpons in 1976, and he collected 16 steals (again only caught twice) with a .268/.317/.310 batting line for the Trois-Rivieres Aigles in 1977. He was 9th in the Eastern League in swipesand tied for 8th in the Reds chain. His .982 fielding led Eastern League second basemen. [1] Davidson recorded a .321/.339/.358 batting line in 13 games for the Nashville Sounds in 1977, and he hit .290/.354/.348 in 59 games for the AAA Indianapolis Indians in 1978. He slumped to .203/.260/.259 in 88 games for the Indians in 1988, and he announced his retirement. Davidson later managed the Cedar Rapids Reds from 1981 to 1982.
