Biographical Information[edit]

Ota Kaňok played in the Extraliga and for the Czech national team.

He hit five homers for the 1993 Arrows Ostrava (other stats are unavailable for 1993-1994) and one homer in 1994. In 1995, he hit .450/.522/.867. [1] He tied Tomáš Svoboda and Jiří Víšek for 6th in homers (6), was 2nd in average, 5th in OBP, 3rd in slugging, 4th in OPS and 7th in total bases (52). In '96, he was 2 for 4 with a double, triple and two walks. In 1997, he was back in regular action, producing at a .505/.573/.768 clip. He was the league leader in hits (48, 2 ahead of Marek Rejman), average, OBP (.044 ahead of Michal Břeň) and doubles (11, tied). He was also 7th in slugging, 2nd in OPS (24 behind Rejman), 4th in runs (39), tied for 2nd in steals (26, 2 behind Tomáš Ovesný), tied for 7th in extra-base hits (26) and 6th in total bases (73). He was on the Czech team in the 1997 European Championship, the first European Championship for the Czechs. [3] In '98, he hit .387/.489/.627 for the Arrows, placing 8th in the Extraliga in OBP and 3rd in steals (17). [4] He batted .290/.361/.500 with 19 runs in 18 games in 1999. In 2000, his batting line was .475/.554/.787 with 29 runs and 25 RBI in 17 games. He finished 4th in average, 4th in OBP, 5th in slugging and 5th in OPS.

In 2001, the veteran hit .313/.389/.406 in reduced time. He did not appear in 2002-2003. He came back in 2004 and batted .320/.413/.380. He tied for 4th with 21 RBI. The next year, he hit .297/.348/.381 and was still among the leaders in RBI (23, 10th) and doubles (10, tied for 6th with Petr Čech). He wound up his career in 2006, with a solid .337/.437/.395 and 6th place in RBI (21) while in the top 10 in average.

In 10 seasons from 1995-2006, he had hit .374/.454/.583 with 192 runs and 187 RBI. Even though stats are missing from the early part of his career, he is still among the career leaderboards (1995-2019) for OBP (19th, between Josef Srbecký and Mitch Nilsson) and steals (90, 17th). [5]
