Biographical Information[edit]

John Leonard was a minor league pitcher.

Leonard allowed five runs in 1 1/3 IP as a college freshman and improved to 5-4, 3.92 as a sophomore. He tied for the Colonial Athletic Association lead in complete games (3) and shutouts (1). In 2006, he had a 7-5, 3.56 record with 91 strikeouts in 96 innings. He tied for 4th in the CAA in wins, was 4th in innings, ranked 7th in strikeouts and was 6th in walks (39). His senior year, Leonard went 5-2 with a 5.01 ERA. He led the CAA with 16 starts, was 4th in innings (93 1/3), tied for 6th in hits allowed (105), was 6th with 40 walks and tied for 4th with 69 strikeouts.

Undrafted, he was signed by the Kansas City Royals. On August 2, he and Idaho Falls Chukars teammate Ben Swaggerty combined on a rain-shortened five-inning no-hitter to beat the Casper Rockies. Leonard walked four and fanned four in four innings while allowing one run. He finished the season 3-2 with a 4.68 ERA for Idaho Falls. He spent the remainder of his career in the independent leagues. In 2008, he was 0-1 with 24 runs in 15 2/3 IP for the Washington Wild Things, with a WHIP of 1.98. He was 0-2 with a 2.25 ERA for the 2010 Sioux City Explorers and gave up 12 runs, 12 hits and 8 walks in 8 1/3 IP for the same team in 2011.

Overall, Leonard had a 3-5, 5.48 record in 37 games as a pro. In 113 1/3 IP, he allowed 130 hits and 60 walks while striking out 88.
