Biographical Information[edit]

Jeremy Ward pitched in the minors and for the USA National team.

Ward was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2nd round of the 1999 Amateur Draft, with the 71st overall selection. He notched 7 saves with a 2.45 ERA in 19 appearances for the El Paso Diablos in his first season. He also pitched 4 games with a 2.08 ERA for the High Desert Mavericks, and he recorded a shutout inning for the Tucson Sidewinders, reaching AAA in his first season. He would not advance to the majors, though. Ward then went 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Sidewinders in 2000, and he also pitched 2 shutout innings for the AZL Diamondbacks. Given his limited workload, he was presumably injured. He was 3-4 with 13 saves a 3.52 ERA in Tucson in 2001, and his ERA was 1.13 in 6 games for the Diablos. He tied Mike Koplove and José Valverde for 5th in the D'backs chain in saves and was 9th in the 2001 PCL (everyone else in the top ten pitched in the majors). He also represented the USA in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, pitching three shutout innings.

In 2002, Ward stayed in Tucson and he was 4-6 with a 4.31 ERA in 54 relief outings, third-most among Arizona's minor leaguers. He notched 5 saves in 25 games in 2003, but his ERA rose to 6.51 with a 1-1 record. Ward then had a 7.94 ERA in 7 games for the Sidewinders, and he allowed 8 runs in 5 2/3 innings for the Diablos before he left the team in May. He was 3-3 with a 4.97 ERA and 3 saves for the Trenton Thunder, affiliated with the New York Yankees, and he joined the Atlanta Braves system in 2004. Ward was 3-4 with a 3.74 ERA for the Richmond Braves, and he also pitched 12 games with a 2.63 ERA for the Mississippi Braves. Ward's ERA was 5.40 in 4 games for the AAA Oklahoma RedHawks in 2006, and he was 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA and 2 saves for the Frisco RoughRiders. He also notched 2 saves in 5 shutout innings for the Atlantic City Surf in '06, and it was his last season.

Overall, Ward was 19-26 with a 4.15 ERA and 35 saves, struck out 272 in 291 appearances in 8 seasons as a pro.
