Biographical Information[edit]

Inayat Khan was the top pitcher for the Pakistani national team in the 2015 Asian Championship. He wrapped up their lone win, saving Muhammad Abdullah Bara's victory against Indonesia and throwing 3 2/3 shutout innings (1 H, 1 HB, 2 K). Starting against eventual champion South Korea, he worked four innings (4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K); his relievers would give up 8 runs in). He closed out Ihsan Ullah's game against China, allowing one run in 2 2/3 IP with 3 whiffs. His 8 strikeouts led the Pakistani staff (two ahead of Ihsan Ullah) and his 1.74 ERA clearly was best on their team (Bara was next at 6.35).

He then got the job of starting for Pakistan in their first appearance in a global tournament, the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Facing Brazil in the opener, he tossed two shutout frames (fanning both Dante Bichette Jr. and Reinaldo Sato before giving up four runs in the next two innings. He left with one on and one out in the 5th, relieved by Ihsan Ullah. He finished the event with a team-high 4 1/3 IP and team-best 8.31 ERA (1.51 ahead of #2 Muhammad Zohaib) and his 2.31 WHIP was second, .13 behind Zohaib. In the 2017 Asian Championship, he pitched eight innings (6 H, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 UER) in relief, one against Hong Kong and seven shutout frames after taking over for Abubakar Virk in a win over Sri Lanka for Pakistan's lone win of the event. He was third in the event in innings without allowing an earned run, behind only Masaki Tanigawa and Sung-han Kim.
