It opened in 1974, and in the first game there, on March 30th, USC pitcher Russ McQueen threw a no-hitter. Dedeaux Field has also hosted 7 College World Series Regionals (1974, 1975, 1978, 1991, 1999, 2001, & 2002) along with the 2001 Super Regional.

Dedeaux Field has been used in several movies, including A League of Their Own, Mr. Baseball, and For Love of the Game.

The dimensions were 335' down both foul lines, 375' to left center, 365' to right center, and 395' to center field.

Before the 2024 season, Dedeaux Field was torn down in order for USC to construct a number of new athletic facilities. The field was originally north facing and now will be east facing and will have the same 2,500 capacity as before. In 2024 and 2025, USC played its home games mainly in Irvine, CA at the Orange County Great Park. USC also played some midweek games at Loyola Marymount University as well as a handful at University of California, Irvine. USC also practiced at nearby El Camino College while they were left without a field.
