Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Alvis, son of major leaguer Max Alvis, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 44th round of the 1984 Amateur Draft, but he did not sign. He represented the USA in the 1984 Amateur World Series. The Cleveland Indians then picked him in the 31st round of the 1985 Amateur Draft.

He split his first summer in the minors, hitting .220/.287/.263 in 39 games for the Waterloo Indians and going 15-for-56 with the Batavia Trojans in 1985. He recorded a .236/.281/.346 batting line in 93 games in Waterloo in 1986. He played 119 games with a .252/.304/.394 batting line there in 1987, and his professional career ended.
