1943 Amateur World Series
The 1943 Amateur World Series was the sixth Amateur World Series. It was held from September 25 through October 19, 1943 in Havana, Cuba. No home runs were hit in 24 games at La Tropical Stadium as pitching dominated.
Cuba won Gold at 9-3, losing once to each of the other 3 teams in a small field. They were managed by Leon Rojas. Angel Fleitas led the tourney in hitting (.371); his brother had been MVP of the 1942 Amateur World Series. Luis Suarez (.354) led the Series in hits (17) and RBI (9) and tied for the most triples (2). The MVP was Natilla Jiménez, who went 1-1 but did not allow an earned run in two outings. He was the only member of the staff who never played in the majors as Julio Moreno (3-1, 0.70), Izzy Leon (1-0, 0.00), Rogelio Martinez (3-0, 0.96) and Sandy Consuegra (1-1, 3.44) would all wind up in The Show.
