We sure are! We’ll warn you right now—this blog post contains spoilers. But if you’re looking for a little help with today’s grid (or you already filled it out and want to know who else qualified) read on.

To fill out today’s grid, you need to choose a player who played for both the Braves and Orioles. There were 177 players who played with both Baltimore and Atlanta. Here are some examples:

Hugh Duffy

Hugh Duffy has the highest full-season major league batting average of all time, hitting .440 in 1894. He had a 17-year major league career and also managed for 8 years. He won the 1894 Triple Crown, played on the top Boston Beaneaters teams of the 1890s, and had a lifetime batting average of .324. His teammates in the Beaneaters outfield included Hall of Famers Billy Hamilton and Tommy McCarthy.

Lonnie Smith

Lonnie Smith always found a way to get on a World Series team; he is still the only man to play in the World Series for four different teams – the Philadelphia Phillies (in 1980), the St. Louis Cardinals (in 1982), the Kansas City Royals (in 1985) and the Atlanta Braves (in 1991 and 1992).

A below-average defensive outfielder, he had an excellent on-base percentage in an era when such a trait was not always appreciated. He was troubled by drug use during his early career, and had injury issues in the later half of his career, yet managed to attain a very respectable .792 lifetime OPS (higher than contemporary Hall of Famers Cal Ripken and Ozzie Smith, and only 4 points below that of Ryne Sandberg). His base-running miscue in the 1991 World Series may have cost the Atlanta Braves the World Series. Smith was one of the fastest players of his time and once stole five bases in one game on September 4, 1982.

George Sisler

George Sisler (March 24, 1893 – March 26,1973), nicknamed “Gorgeous George,” was one of the greatest fielding first basemen of all time. He set hitting records which no one has equalled in the last eighty years. Ty Cobb called him “the nearest thing to a perfect ballplayer.” He is widely regarded as having been the greatest player in St. Louis Browns history.

Nick Markakis

Nick Markakis is an outfielder who played as a regular from the time he made his major league debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2006 until his retirement following the 2020 season with the Atlanta Braves.

He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 35th round of the 2001 amateur draft out of high school, but continued on to junior college. In 2002, Nick hit .455, slugged .885, cracked 17 homers and drove in 74 as a freshman in college, playing DH. Pitching as well, he went 11-3 with 98 Ks in 91 innings but a 4.53 ERA. Baseball America named him their Junior College Player of the Year. In the 2002 amateur draft, the Reds took him in the 23rd round as a draft-and-follow pick.

Kevin Millwood

Kevin Millwood threw a no-hitter on April 27, 2003, pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies.

His best season was 1999, with the Atlanta Braves, when he was second to Randy Johnson in the National League in ERA. He threw ten shutout innings in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals (boxscore) that year, and he more famously threw a one-hitter against the Houston Astros in the NLDS (boxscore). The lone hit that he allowed was a home run by Ken Caminiti.

On June 8, 2012, he pitched 6 no-hit innings for the Seattle Mariners against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but had to leave the game with a mild groin strain and the game still scoreless. Five relievers succeeded him on the mound to complete the no-hitter, with Stephen Pryor earning the 1-0 win in only his 4th major league appearance. He pitched his last major league game at the end of that season.

Millwood became eligible for the Hall of Fame in the 2018 Hall of Fame Election, although he did not receive a single vote.

All 177 Players

You can see all 177 players who played with both Baltimore and Atlanta on Baseball Reference.
