[edit] Biographical Information
Outfielder Joe Gallagher was one of the first to go into the Armed Forces during World War II, enlisting in the Spring of 1941. After the war, he returned to the minor leagues and roomed with Jackie Robinson when they were with the Montreal Royals.
On April 9, 1947, Gallagher hired as Head Baseball Coach at Stephen F. Austin State College in Nacogdoches, Texas. Gallagher was also the coach of Rice University in 1962. He died at age 83 after a long illness.
