[edit] Biographical Information
Jim Cox was the second overall player taken in the 1972 January draft. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Iowa. He hit .264 with 11 home runs and 67 RBI as the Memphis Blues' third baseman in 1975.
Most of his major league playing time came in the 1974 season with the Montreal Expos. He won the starting second base job in spring training, and played 77 games as a rookie. However, he only hit .220 and eventually lost the starting job to Larry Lintz, who although not much more of a hitter, had tremendous speed. His entire major league career was spent with the Expos. He stayed with the organization for a number of seasons after his last major league appearance in 1976, and had some good seasons playing third base for the Denver Bears of the American Association.
