Gene Markland, who had one hit in the majors in 1950, is featured in the book "One Hit Wonders: Baseball Stories".
Markland started in pro ball in 1939. He was in the war from 1942-45.
He hit around .300 a couple times for Buffalo in 1949-50.
He retired from pro baseball during the 1952 season.
