Fujia Chu began his baseball career as a pitcher but was moved to the infield. He plays for the Hopestars of his native Jiangsu. He was on the Chinese roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. As China's starting first baseman in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, he went 1 for 9 with a steal and a run. He scored a crucial run in the win over the Taiwan national team, singling off Yueh-Ping Lin, stealing second and coming home on a hit by Fenglian Hou. Chu made a run-costing error in a loss to South Korea.
