Billy Rowell was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round of the 2006 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Dean Albany and made his pro debut that summer with the Bluefield Orioles, hitting .329 in 42 games. He was then promoted to the Aberdeen IronBirds, where he hit .326 in 11 contests.
