Rangers Ballpark itinerary by Wise Guides

The Texas Rangers may have little in their past to boast about, but there's a cool spot at their ballpark where baseball history comes to life. Get to the park an hour or so before first pitch so you can check out the Legends of the Game Museum located behind the right-field bleachers. The museum has over 100 items on loan from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and tickets are half off for fans on game day. ... After you've soaked up some baseball history, it's time to head into the park. If possible, get seats in the home run porch in right, a double-deck section that's probably the park's most unique feature. Actually, that designation would go to the office building beyond center, but you can't sit there unless you work there. ... The variety of hot dog offerings at the park is impressive, but this is Texas, so try a barbeque beef sandwich with a Shiner Bock, a popular Texas beer. ... The heat and humidity can be pretty brutal, so if you need a break head to the Rawlings All American Grille overlooking right field or the Diamond Club in left-center. Both offer food and drink, are open to all ticket holders and have views of the playing field. And oh yea, they're air conditioned. ... If you're old school and can't get used to bars and restaurants inside ballparks, beat the heat with one of the giant frozen margaritas or a frozen or iced coffee from a Starbucks stand. Wait, that's not old school ... Anyway, once the games ends there's not a heck of a lot to do in the near vicinity of the park, unless you're a 12-year-old. The Six Flags Over Texas theme park is within walking distance, and across the Tom Landry Highway from there is Hurricane Harbor, a water park operated by Six Flags. ... The name of that highway tells you a little about what Texans are truly serious about. The Cowboys are set to open a new stadium in 2009 a short walk from Rangers Ballpark, and that should mean more restaurants bars and shops will sprout up with it. ... Arlington does have the advantage of sitting between two larger cities, each with its own unique identity. Fort Worth is known for its 'Cowboys and Culture,' while Dallas has a variety of restaurants, clubs, bars and upscale shopping. If you've got the kids with you or just always thought of yourself as a cowboy at heart, skip Six Flags and hit the Fort Worth Stockyards to take in some culture of the West and have a good steak.

    Parking -- 2007-04-12

    Snoozer -- 2006-07-07

Yawn. What a snoozer of a ballpark. Don't get me wrong, the place is clean and shiny, and has all of the amenities of a modern ballpark, but it lacks the character and grit that baseball (should) exemplify. Perhaps I've just been in New York a little too long now, but I like a little grime and attitude with my baseball. (I'm a Mets fan)

As I ascended the escalator, I felt as if I had just stepped into a shopping mall! No kidding, the outer concourse is lined with tile! Looking down I was reminded of the bathroom in my old apartment. Strange.

Bathrooms-three or four urinals per men's room? Are you kidding me? Good thing not many people showed up for the game or I could see missing a few innings due to bathroom congestion.

Seats-I sat in the "Lexus Club Level" seating (it pains me just to write that...but I guess they slap a corporate name on everything these days) and the view was quite good. I was especially impressed with how well I could see the pitches break from my seat. The fireworks after the home runs were cool (four dingers in the game I went to) but I was amazed at how quiet the park was. The Rangers played awesome and won! Come on Texas, make some noise!

The "mote" surrounding the home plate entrance was a cool feature.

Parking-parking was a rip off. Without telling you otherwise, they usher you in from the highway for $15 parking (yes, you read that right. Fifteen bucks for parking). Slightly cheaper ($10) parking is available for us working stiffs, but it's further away, so keep driving past the "general parking" signs.

The fans-from what I gathered, it was quite an upscale/yuppie crowd. Definitely not knowledgeable about the game of baseball. More there for the "scene" than the game.

Food-didn't eat. I'm not a fan of eating ballpark food, although a hot dog is usually required fare for me. At Ameriquest, the food didn't look even mildly appetizing, even for ballpark food. At least they didn't serve sushi.

Staff-the ticket window staff, security, and ushers were all very friendly and helpful.

Overall-this is 2006 and baseball isn't the game or attraction it used to be. i understand the need to bring people into the ballpark and make them feel comfortable and surround them with everything they are used to in their everyday lives (the Starbucks lattes and food courts). But this is baseball! I guess Ameriquest Field is just a reflection of the "corporatization" of America. Shame.

If you're looking for a true Texas sporting event, stick with football.

    Best value -- 2001-09-05

To me the best value are the $28 seats down the first base line. Your seat is angled back towards home, its on the lower level, the sun is not a problem, and all the seats to your immediate left are $10 more expensive. Only drawback? To far down the line and you can't see the jumbotron. Sections are 38-41 I think.

Great for "getting out" -- 2001-08-28

It's a very attractive park, though I wish it had less advertising (especially neon) everywhere you look. The stadium personnel are cordial and helpful, and the field visibility is probably good from every location. The happiest surprise is how smoothly traffic is handled. I went to a game that was a near-sellout, stayed until the final out, and still managed to walk to my car and make it to the highway back to Fort Worth in less than 15 minutes. At Yankee Stadium, where I usually see games, I'd be lucky to reach the highway in an hour.

I've been to Arlington, two times now, and I very much enjoyed it...the seats are great, and the park is "massive"...the enclosed environment seems to make it rather gloomy...I understand that they are thinking of opening it up by tearing out the "offices in left center field...good idea!

This is a good place to watch a game. -- 2001-07-11

I have been to the Arlington ballpark several times and found the facility to be very accommodating, there appears to be a great view from most of the seat locations, and the people who work at the stadium seem to enjoy what they do and go out of their way to help people.

While the food is a little high, it looks to be priced similar to other major league parks.

The Ballpark at Arlington has real personality.

    Worst Park yet... -- 2001-07-03

I went to Arlington park a few years ago while in Dallas on business. Of the many parks that I have been to (20 total), this one is by far the WORST. Way too commercial, with advertisements and huge jumbotron screens and restaurants everywhere in the park. This park has absolutely no character and is in my opinion sterile in every sense of the word. The only thing that it is missing is a huge dome, plastic turf and fat women who run up and kiss the players. The parks built in the 70's had more character than this place!

Red Sox fan thinks the ball park in Arlington is beautiful. -- 2001-06-18

The old Rangers ballpark was an ok stadium. The new one is outstanding. I think everyone should go to the park because of the experience. A very nice, luxurious park.

The Ballpark at Arlington -- 2001-06-06

The Ballpark at Arlington is a very nice park. With luxury boxes good seats and the cheap seats there is no real bad seat.

Take the best of the classics,,,,, -- 2001-06-04

This ballpark has the upper deck of Tiger Stadium, the hand operated scoreboard of Wrigley, the facade of Yankee Stadium, the "hit this sign" of Ebbets Field (though it's 550 feet away) and the grass hitters background of several of the classics. Great looking park, even though the back of it had to be enclosed because there is nothing to see past the ballpark. But I wouldn't have blamed them for building a retractable dome to beat that brutal Texas heat.

    "you've got to visit" -- 2001-01-04

I've been to several of the new ballparks over the last few years including The Ballpark,Camden Yards, Jacobs Field, Safeco Field and Turner Field, and I think that the Ballpark at Arlington is the sweetest park of them all. Although it's kind of in the middle of nowhere as opposed to being in the midst of an exciting city-like enrironment, the Ballpark itself is beautiful on the outside, the field is great looking, their isn't a bad seat in the house, the food and drink service is astoundingly quick and the coolest part of the place is behing center field, where's there is an entire pavillion consisting of restaurants, gift shops, even art galleries and a radio station. You also get a great view of the game from back there. I highly suggest visiting the Ballpark at Arlington.
