Vanilla -- 2002-07-10
Greenville is a somewhat vanilla experience, with nothing outstanding (good or bad) about the ballpark. Access is easy, in an industrial park a mile or so from the Freeway. None of the seats are covered, but every vertical surface is---with advertising signs. Tickets rather expensive--I think even GA is $6.50.
Greenville 101 -- 2001-05-25
Tickets are reasonable... 2001 prices = 7.75 for a box seat, 8.50 for prime box, which are down close to the action. An average stadium as they go, but colorful with over 7,000 red & blue "box" (backed) seats, and lots of metal bleacher space beyond that. A good concourse runs above and behind all the seating, where the game is still clearly visible. I got to see John Smoltz pitch in Greenville when he was rehabbing his shoulder in May 2001, and the crowd numbered over 10,000... average attendance is closer to 4,000, with great seats readily available. It's neat to see the mix of players in AA, with everyone from 19-year-old phenoms to 30-year-olds (like Braves catcher Jeff Horn) still trying to play their way to the Bigs. The Southern League is a pitchers' league, so don't expect many homers. :) - Jim Hardin
