Petco Park itinerary by Wise Guides

The Padres and their fans enjoyed an excellent upgrade when the team moved from Qualcomm (formerly Jack Murphy) Stadium to Petco Park. It's a great place to watch a game and the downtown Gaslamp Quarter is buzzing, so get there early and look around. ... And while you're walking, stop in Tivoli for a couple. It's just a couple of blocks from the park and one of San Diego's oldest bars. Ok, it's a dive, but a friendly one where Padres fans gather pre- and post-game. ... Enter the park from the north and on your way in check out the Park at the Park and the statue of Padre great Tony Gwynn there. ... Like many of the newer parks, Petco has wide concourses full of concessions that encourage fans to stroll around. Take advantage of it, and stop at the Mercado behind home plate, an open space with views out toward Coronado Bay. Grab a margarita at the La Cantina stand there (hey, it's San Diego). ... They go good with the fish tacos, the unofficial signature food item of San Diego. If that sounds like an odd thing to eat at a ballgame, hit the Randy Jones Barbeque stand, run by the ex-San Diego pitcher. ... At some point during the game check out the Western Metal Supply Company Building in the left-field corner. Rather than knock down the 100-year-old building, the Padres incorporated it into their new ballpark. The team store on the first floor has a section right off the warning track where you can stand and watch the game. ... After the game it's back out into the Gaslamp Qaurter. While there are dozens of bars and restaurants to choose from, for dinner you can't go wrong at Blue Point. ... After some excellent seafood there, go to Croce's to hear some jazz. It's run by Jim Croce's widow and is a stylish place to grab a drink and hear some tunes.

    Awesome to Just Great ! -- 2005-04-10

2004 was the flagship season of the new stadium, it is just awesome, compared to the old concrete immense qualcomm stadium or the Murph as we locals still refer to it as, Petco park is really nice, great locale, and just NEW ! last night is when I have actually sat in every type of seating, the terrace level is great, the terrace level sky boxes are great, the field level is great, the upper deck is steep but great, the out field seats on either side are great, the Founders club is just superb, the metal building is great, get the picture here? even standing room only areas are awesome, and the best deal going is if you buy a cheap ticket $8.00 and get in line early as soon as the gates open you can ruch up to the third deckl of the metal building get a ceck seat along the rail order booze and great food and scope all the hot chicks out from above! any way this place is awesome, there is only 2 draw backs that i can see here they are: bathrooms in some locations as in field level are not big, transportation to the game is by trolley 4.50 each way or if you stay downtown is easy walking distance, there is parking next to the stadium ranging from 12$ 3 blacks away to 20$ 1 block away, we pay the $20 at tailgate park kick back and suck down a few brews bbq and take a 8 min walk to the field level seats, tough huh? i do have to say those that do ride the trolley say its no problem but its not for me, after the game i am outta there on the hwy and home in 12 mins easy livin if you ask me....food is awesome, plenty of choices from sushi-pizza-to mexican food, beer is awesome too always cold the way we like it, now its a big ball park 411ft to right of center so do not expect alot of runs, hope you get something from this description and you go and can walk away with awesome on yo mind............
